Elossis is a high-fantasy world shaped by divine intervention, cosmic war, and a post-apocalyptic struggle between Light and Darkness, Hope and Despair. Once a realm of harmony and divine design, Elossis now stands shattered and scarred, where magic flows through broken lands, ancient technology lies buried in ruins, and the gods remain distant from the mortal realm.

The World of Elossis

Elossis is a world shaped by the echoes of ancient mysteries and the indelible scars of a cataclysm whose origins are lost to time. The Great Sundering, a pivotal yet enigmatic event, fractured the very essence of the world, giving birth to the current age—a period marked by the resurgence of magic, the emergence of new races, and a delicate balance between the forces of light and darkness.

Now more than two millennia after The Great Sundering, Elossis stands as a world profoundly marked by its history, yet vibrantly alive and teeming with diversity. The catastrophic events that once threatened to unravel the very fabric of reality have now become the stuff of legends, the foundation upon which the current era is built. Elossis, in the present day, is a realm of contrast and confluence, where the remnants of ancient powers and the burgeoning forces of new beginnings coexist.

History

Birth of Creation

According to myth, in the beginning of time, there existed only two great forces: Aeonis, the All-Father, god of life, light, and creation. also known as Elashar; and Noctis (also known as Shaissarid), the Chaos God of destruction, despair, and anti-life. Aeonis reshaped the barren void into the world of Elossis, carving oceans, raising mountains, and breathing life into the stars and lands. From his will were born the Watchers, immortal divine stewards drawn from his essence, tasked with guiding and protecting creation.

Aeonis also created the mighty dragons, giants, beasts, and the mortal races—humans, elves, dwarves, and others—to populate and cherish the world. For a time, the world existed in harmony, governed by balance between structure and freedom, light and shadow.

The Watchers, now known as gods, governed Elossis with authority and power. In an effort to solidify their control, they gifted mortals with powerful obelisks known as Nexuses—arcane engines capable of harnessing divine energy to power technology. This marked the beginning of the Age of Wonders, where civilizations flourished and mortal races built towering cities, sky-faring ships, and weapons of devastating precision.

The Nexus Wars

But Noctis, unable to create, grew jealous of Aeonis’ world. He whispered from the darkness, sowing doubt and ambition into the world, tempting it with promises of self-determination and forbidden power. Tensions between the Watchers erupted into open conflict. Competing for dominion over the Nexuses, alliances shattered, and a full-scale divine war broke out: the Nexus Wars, also known as the War of the Gods.

The war devastated the world. Entire continents cracked, oceans boiled, and skies wept Aether. As gods perished, their divine essence poured into the world unchecked, warping mortals, beasts, and landscapes alike. The conflict culminated in a final apocalyptic event known as The Great Sundering.

During the Sundering, the Veil, a metaphysical barrier separating the mortal world from the Ethereum Abyss, was shattered. Through the breaches poured chaotic entities, aberrations, and horrors drawn to magic and despair. The civilizations of Elossis collapsed. The gods vanished, fled, or were consumed. The world was lost to ruin.

Birth of Magic

Magic, once divine, is now woven into the world itself. With the gods silent and the Aetherflow present, mortals can now access arcane power. However, it remains unpredictable, especially in corrupted zones or when wielded recklessly. High-level magic risks triggering Ethereal Fluctuations—temporary tears in the Veil that can summon chaos or alter reality.

The current age of Elossis is known as the Age of Twilight. Magic has become commonplace, yet dangerous. The once-dominant technology has faded into myth, with only ruins and fragments remaining. Ancient constructs still guard their masters’ legacies, and Aetherite, a rare crystalline form of solidified Aether, has become the most sought-after substance in the world. It powers magic, restores relics, and can even shift the tides of battle.

Civilizations are slowly rebuilding, but the world is fractured—The gods have not fully returned but manifesting their will from afar. Bound by the Covenant of the Veil, they can no longer act directly in the mortal world. They manifest only through avatars, relics, or the dreams of their followers. Many mortals have lost faith. Others whisper of a Redeemer, a prophecy of the All-Father’s return to judge the Fallen and rebuild the Eternal Kingdom.

The Modern Era

Today, Elossis is a world of ashes and embers, where hope and despair constantly contend. The power of Umbra Noctis, or the Shadow of Noctis, has long dominated, seeping into cultures, magic, and hearts. The legacy of Noctis is visible in corrupted ruins, mutated beasts, and ambitious rulers who see only power.

Yet in recent years, pockets of Solaris Veritas—the Radiance of Truth—have begun to return. Miracles occur in forsaken temples. Light springs up in darkened lands. Some believe the Aetherflow itself is awakening the memory of Aeonis within the world. The war between Light and Darkness, hope and despair, truth and transformation, continues—not only in the heavens, but in the hearts of mortals.

Elossis waits—not for salvation, but for those brave enough to shape what comes next.

Demographics

The geography of Elossis is as varied as its history. Towering mountains, vast deserts, lush forests, and sprawling seas define the Material Plane. These natural wonders are imbued with the scars and blessings of the past—ruined cities reclaimed by nature, thriving metropolises built atop ancient ley lines, and wild lands where the veil between the planes grows thin.

The peoples of Elossis are as diverse as the landscapes they inhabit. Humans, elves, dwarves, and newer races born from the cataclysm's aftermath, such as tieflings and dragonborn, forge their destinies. The legacy of the Nexus Wars and The Great Sundering has taught these races much about cooperation and the dangers of unchecked ambition, leading to a world where alliances are valued over conquest.

Societies and Civilizations

The societies of Elossis have risen from the ashes of the cataclysm, forging new identities and alliances. Kingdoms, republics, and federations dot the landscape, each adapting to the unique challenges of their environments and the influence of the adjacent planes. The remnants of ancient technologies and magic, discovered among the ruins of the old world, fuel a constant quest for knowledge and power, often leading to conflict and cooperation in equal measure.

Religion and magic play central roles in the life of Elossis' peoples. The current Pantheon of Gods, their origins shrouded in mystery, are revered across the land, their divine will manifested through clerics and paladins who champion their causes. Meanwhile, arcane magic, once a peril unleashed by the cataclysm, has been harnessed and studied, giving rise to schools of magic and guilds dedicated to understanding its potential and dangers.

The Legacy of the Cataclysm

While the Great Sundering's origins are a matter of speculation, its effects are undeniable. Regions where the fabric of reality is thin, giving rise to anomalies and portals, are approached with both reverence and fear. These areas are often the sites of pilgrimages, research expeditions, and, occasionally, dark rituals seeking to tap into forgotten powers. Knowledge of the Creator, the All-Father has faded into the realm of myth and legend. Vague tales speak of a world-shaping conflict called the Nexus Wars and a divine creator who perished during the conflict, but details are scarce, and the truth is intertwined with countless variations and interpretations.

Continents

At the heart of this world lie five main continents: Leonn, Northern Ehas, Southern Ehas, Iseron, and Vapesh, each with its distinct climate, culture, and geography, surrounded by a myriad of oceans, seas, and smaller landforms like islands and archipelagos. Among these, the Waterwitch Isles hold particular importance, strategically positioned at the world's navel, embodying the spirit of adventure and mystery.
